Holi Celebration All Over India; “City City Bang Bang”
Don’t go by the title, we are still
discussing about holi, another fact of the country is the diversified culture
and the differences in the way they celebrate. In India there are traditions
beyond explanation and faith beyond existence. There is remarkable difference,
from elephants, sticks to War simulation and Dance Holi. Yes it all happens
only in India.
Folk Dance Ding Dong
Well let’s go to East India, But Best
Bengal. There is a small district named Purulia it celebrate the festival in a
unique way. It includes Chau dance, Natua Dance and many folk dances which continue
for three days with the final day being Holi. It is quite different as the
whole concept is uniquely designed and organized by village folks.
Sticky Holi: let’s do lathi Charge
Well no need to provoke police here,
there is a special case of celebrating holi in UP in which lathi charge is
involved, though the special case in this tradition is that it is women doing
men, they hit guys with sticks as a mark of tradition and is celebrated a week
before actual holi so in this month 10th.
The Warrior Way
Sikhism is a new religion compared to
others but has their own traditions, It is a fact of this country that Sikh
were sworn to be warriors and protectors of mankind and they follow the same
silver line to celebrate Holi as well. The event is called holamohala and is
celebrated in Anandpur Sahib (Gurudwara) in Punjab. You can witness a non-color
but a physical demonstration. Wrestling, sword fights, acrobatic exercise,
martial arts and other physical abilities is countersigned in this event. No doubt
the head of military is a Sikh.
Hathi mere Sathi
Elephants were main part of Rajput
Army and were used to win any fight. No more in army though but they still
fight, In the eve of Holi every year in Jaipur a fair is organized in which you
witness famous rajasthani Folk Dance, Beauty contest and Tug war however, the
tug war is between elephants not people.
***Note: The even was cancelled last year as of complaints by animal right activities and there are news of it getting cancelled this year as well or may happen without Elephants.
If some of youare reading to know
where we should celebrate, I would suggest go local, If not an Indian you need
to see at least two different locations of any your own choice as there is no
better or less than better are the places has their own traditional or rather
modern ways of celebrating Holi.
