structure in and after 16th century of India
The three major
and main architectural monuments of the Mughals in the south-west of Asia are:
- Red Fort
- Taj Mahal
- Fatehpur Sikri
These monuments
are constructed with the sandstone and marble. The design of these monuments is
influenced by the Persian origins. The red fort is built by the Mughals at Agra
in between 1565 and 1574. Taj Mahal which is near by the red fort in Agra is started
to build it from 1628 and in 1658 completed. The Fatehpur Sikri is constructed
in between 1569 to 1574. These are the most elegant architectural creation of
the Mughals.
The red fort
brick was originally stood on the site, and it is said that in around 1080 AD
when the red fort was captured in the battle and get ruined. The fort was
rebuilt with the red stones; these red stones were transported from Rajasthan.
It is assumed that ½ million workers built the structure of red fort. The structure
of the red fort was completed in 1574. The red fort is the site of foremost
battles in 1857 of Indian rebellion. This rebel of India leads to the end of
the rule of British Empire in India. British rule the India for more than a
century. Many of the architecture were destroyed by the British as they used
the area of the red fort as their barracks.
Fatehpur Sikri is
a city which comes in the district of the Agra. Fatehpur Sikri was built when
the Mughal emperor moved his capital to Sikri ridge from the Agra. Akbar named
his newly built city as fatahabad. In Arabic, fatahabad means victory. Fatehpur
Sikri is the name given after sometime. The best Mughal architectural creation
is situated in the Fatehpur Sikri. Architecture like Fatehpur Sikri cannot be
found in any place of India. Fatehpur Sikri was completed in 1574, and it was
started to build from 1569. In 1585, Fatehpur Sikri was abandoned due to the
shortage of the water. In 1719, it was occupied by the Mughal emperor Muhammad
Shah in 1719. Area of the Fatehpur Sikri is spread over three kilometers in
length and half of the kilometer in the width. Fatehpur Sikri walls are eight
kilometers in length on the three sides. And The fourth one side of the
Fatehpur sikri is protected by Water Lake.
Agra’s most
popular structure in India is Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is one of the world heritage
sites. It is also among one of the so called Seven Wonders in the World. It was
built in between the period of 1632 – 1653. Taj Mahal was created by the Mughal
emperor named as Shah Jahan. Shah Jahan built Taj Mahal in the memory Mumtaz
Mahal. Mumtaz Mahal was his third wife. It is one of the most finest
architectural structure of the Mughal empire. Taj Mahal is the combination of Indian,
Turkish and Persian architecture. Material which is used in Taj Mahal came from
various regions of Asia. White marble, jasper, sapphire, jade and precious
stone is used in the construction of the Taj Mahal.
